Direct Support Professional

THE OPPORTUNITY

We are seeking experienced, energetic and passionate direct support professionals (“DSP”) to assist in the implementation of an individualized daily living support program in Madison, Wisconsin for a young man on the autism spectrum. The DSP position is an hourly position, reporting to a Residential Director responsible for overseeing and managing the program. Functioning as a team, the DSP staff will provide evening and overnight support of the daily program.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Residential Director, the DSP is responsible for providing support and coaching in all aspects of an individualized daily living program in a private, independent living setting, including (i) the support of self-care and other independent living tasks and activities (e.g., grooming, dressing and meal prep), (ii) medication administration, and (iii) the support and coordination of vocational, social and recreational activities.

TIME COMMITMENT

15-30 hours/week, including some overnight and weekend support; flexibility is essential

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma; bachelor’s degree (or college matriculation) in social work, special education or a related field is a plus

  • At least 1 year of experience working with young adults with developmental disabilities (ideally autism and ADHD) is a plus

  • Excellent communication and advocacy skills

  • Specialized training in medication administration is a plus

  • Proficiency in augmentative communication devices is a plus

  • Experience working collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team of service providers

REQUIRED CERTIFICATES & LICENSES

  • Valid motor vehicle driver’s license with proof of insurance

  • CPR/First Aid Certification required within 3 months of hire

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

The chosen candidate will be required to complete and pass a criminal background and Child Protective Services Registry check, and undergo a driving record check and sanction screening to the satisfaction of the employer.

STARTING SALARY

$16 - $19.50 per hour
